Known for its fine quality, marble from Makrana in Rajasthan is now Asia’s first Global Heritage Stone Resource (GHSR). As confirmed on july 19 by the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS).

The main goal of International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) and HSS project is to recognise stones. that have been used for many years, mainly over centuries in the construction of the famous monuments.

After this great announcement, Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot tweeted:-

“Good news for State that International Union of Geological Sciences. @theIUGS has confirmed #Makrana Marble to be #Asia’s first Global Heritage Stone Resource (GHSR). It will give international recognition to Makrana Marble and help in its conservation too. #Rajasthan,”

People are wondering why this marble became ‘Global Heritage Stone Resource’. This marble is from the area of Rajasthan which is famous with name ‘Makrana’ from 16th century.

Makrana marble is a metamorphic rock, which has about 90–98% Calcium Carbonate and this is best in its kind. This stone is only in Makrana which is a small town of Rajasthan, situated 110 km west of Jaipur and famous all over world. This is an achievement for Indians.

The first time this stone was used to build Taj Mahal of Agra. People say that after the construction of Taj Mahal, artisans came to build this wonder from Mekran city of Iran, that’s why they derive the city name as Makrana. This stone is popular globally and seeking attention of many countries.

Apart from construction work, this beautiful marble is famous for sculptures, handicrafts and furnishing in India. Makrana marble comes in range from Rs.150 to Rs.1200/ per sq. feet.

 

Makrana marble is the best quality of marble in the world!

From the last some years, white marble from Vietnam replaced the Makrana Marble because it was not much expensive like Makrana Marble. But now again people will start buying the sculptures made from the original Makrana marble which will give chance to our stone industry to build again.

According to geologist, after this achievement. People will come to visit this city from all over from world to know about this stone and market of Makrana marble will increase.
